Since September 2018, YWCA Rwanda, in partnership with UNICEF, has been implementing the Youth Volunteer Initiative to Reduce School Dropouts, known as Tugane Ishuri, across 13 sectors in Ngororero District. This initiative primarily focuses on addressing school dropout rates through a youth-led volunteering approach.
The main objectives of the Tugane Ishuri project are to cultivate a network of committed youth volunteers who embody the spirit of volunteerism, support young people in acquiring entrepreneurship and employability skills through Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET), and facilitate the re-enrolment of students who have dropped out of school through the dedicated efforts of youth volunteers.
Key Achievements
- The project was officially launched and introduced to local leaders.
- Training sessions were conducted for 160 youth volunteers, along with 13 executive secretaries and 13 sector education officers.
- Six monitoring and evaluation exercises were carried out to track the progress of schools and students who returned to school.
